UCIEP Broadens Guidelines

This past year, UCIEP convened a committee to review the bylaws and guidelines related to faculty and employment status. It found that provisions existed for programs without a majority of full-time faculty to become full members. The committee put forth proposed changes that clarify that UCIEPs intention is to always advocate that institutions offer employees fair and appropriate compensation, support, and recognition, while making sure their staffing model provides program stability and continuity. Although UCIEP recommends full-time status for academic employees, not having a majority of instruction conducted by faculty with full-time status should not prohibit university and college English language programs from becoming UCIEP members. At their February general meeting in Texas, members voted unanimously to adopt the proposed changes.

UCIEP, University and College English Language Programs, is an independent consortium of university and college-administered English language programs in the United States and its territories. Founded in 1967, UCIEP's purpose is to advance professional standards and quality instruction in English language programs at universities, colleges, and 4-year degree-granting community colleges in the United States and its territories. UCIEP has an all inclusive annual membership fee, which includes the following:
